Pastor Gurkins is one of eleven children. He was born in Washington, NC and moved to the Greenville area when he was in the second grade. He is a graduate of Chicod High School Class of 1966.
Pastor Gurkins felt the call of God upon his life in the early 1970s. In 1977 he and his wife, Virginia Mills Gurkins and son, Edwin, moved to Dunn, NC for him to attend Heritage Bible College. He was ordained in February of 1978 and graduated from Heritage in May of 1981. He began full-time pastoring in February, 1980. His ministry includes Red Hill PFWB Church in Harnett County, Faro Chapel PFWB Church in Wayne County and his present pastorate. Pastor Gurkins and his wife, Virginia, began their pastorate at Black Jack PFWB Church in January of 2002.
Their son, Edwin, is married and lives at Faro in Wayne County. Edwin's wife is the former Tiffany Thomas. Edwin and Tiffany have one son, Robert Anthony Gurkins, who is 13. Pastor Gurkins enjoys spending time with family, camping and gardening.
Lance feels that God has placed a passion in his life to minister to students. He came to Black Jack PFWB Church in May 2006. Lance is currently teaching classes to kids of all ages on Sunday mornings, Sunday nights, and Wednesday nights.
Recreationally, Lance enjoys drawing, watching movies, playing video games, listening to music, going to concerts, and most importantly, watching and keeping up with Duke Blue Devil athletics.
